What is the difference between the piolt bearing and the throwout? I thought they were the same thing? Should the piolt be replaced? Joe

I would recommend replacing them both. I am actually not sure what the pilot bearing is for, but I know it ride in the center of the flywheel. Now the throw-out bearing is a bearing the rides between the pressure plate fingers and the hydraulic clutch arm. It allow the "mechanical arm" to apply pressure to the rotating "fingers". Hope that helped some. Anyone know what the pilot is for? Bryan Pendleton >

The pilot bearing is just that the pilot. I guides the shaft of the transmission into the engine. Jose G

Thanks for the help guys. I went to the Ford dealer a few minutes ago, and picked one up. I'm glad I found out before I started on the clutch... Thanks Joe
