Hello,
I own a 1994 Ford Econoline E150 Luxury conversion van
with the 4.9 Liter Inline Six cylinder engine and the 3 speed automatic
with 74,000 miles.
The Ford label under the hood says the oil capacity is 5 and a half quarts.
I had a oil change yesterday. The mechanic put in 6 quarts, overfilling it
by a half quart of oil. I confirmed this by waiting a few hours and then
checking the oil level when the engine was cold.
I have heard that putting in too much oil causes too high oil pressure
which causes engine oil leaks and "astronical prices" to fix the front
and rear engine seals.
I was just curious if anyone else has encountered this overfill problem,
and whether it makes sense to take it back to the shop and have them
drain the 1/2 quart of oil out of the engine.
