I'm planning on buying a 2007 Expedition to tow a travel trailer that has a GVWR of 7,800lbs. I read somewhere that the standard rate is 6,000lbs and properly equipped can tow 9,200lbs. What do they mean properly equipped and how do I find out by looking at the veh data plate or is this in the vin #. Were do I find the brake down of what the letter mean in the vin #?

"properly equipped" means you have a brake controller (7 pin harness setup) and a use of anti-sway/hitch distribution setup. Check if you have a 3.7 or better rear diff, and trans cooler. For your safty and others drivers you need to have at lease these 4 things.
Assuming you have a class IV or above hitch.
