I have a 2003 with a 6.0 (yes the first year of the new motor) and I have a 4 horse trailer and at one time was pulling 4 horses, one of them being 2000# by himself, the others around 800-1000#. I dont ususallly know they are back there. I never bog down on hills. I set the cruise and go. I average 12mpg, unless bucking a headwind, then will drop down into 11 or so.
My last truck was a 460 and even the second motor wasnt right. I think there will always be a problem with the 460. Something to think of is that the motor on the diesel has a 100,000 mile warrenty on it. We do have a couple problems but they are due to cold. I can bet your average winter temps arent -20F, tho, so I dont think you would have to worry about it. But Ford is updating. I did get a new part that is supposed to take care of our winter problems, but since it hasnt been cold yet, dont know if it will work.
oh... my truck is a f350 4x4 4DR doooley
gives you something to think about, anyway
