Greetings, I am a new owner of an 87 with a 300 I-6 and the 3+OD 4 speed tranny. The tranny has a high pitched squeal at certian times, but only at low speeds. It will squeal in forward gears when it is cold and/or when decelerating. It will also squeal when I am reversing. I have noticed that when the vehicle has warmed up it does not do this as much. My cousin who had an 87 F150 thought it may be an input shaft bearing. I am very certian that it is originating from the tranny and not the transfer case. Does anyone have an opinion as to what this may be? thanks

Hey Frisky,<br>After 2 trannies, 3+OD's, in my 83 Bronco with a 300-6, I now sport a 1989 5 speed mazda tranny and it is working fine, I also swithched to a hydraulic accuated clutch. My beastie has 239k and is still strong, the tranny has been in about 5 years, with about 65k on it. Well worth the $$$$.

Thanks for the info. I have been debating trying to repair the original tranny, or getting a 5 spd. I think a 5 spd should be easy to find, I am a little worried about the expense of getting a good 5 spd. Also, I have been wondering if a 5 spd is a drop in as far as mating to the existing bellhousing/clutch and the transfer case. Any info on something like this?
