I have a 93 probe se with 125,000.00 miles on it and the transmission is junk. Does anyone have any ideas or quick fix for a automatic with overdrive. The shop wants 1200.00 to rebuild this one.

I have a 93 with 137,000 miles on it but the tranny is still good. its even better when I changed the tranny fluid. maybe it depends upon how you drive it coz I never redlined mine since I got it.

i had a 95 se with the auto trans and i ended up having it rebuilt for the second time at 92.000. where ever you got the quot for 1.200 go for it because mine ended up costing me $2.927.    and about the trans leaking, there is a gasket that goes right down the middle where the trans housing bolts togather. your best bet is to take it to a tranny speciallist and have it replaced.

john,        how did you fix the low idle speed? did you adjust the idle screw only? my faulty idle was corrected by cleaning the MAF and the IAC valve. I wondered if I could have corrected it by adjusting the idle screw only saving me the effort of taking off the MAF and IAC. the only thing is, I don?t know where the idle screw is.                                                                                      probep7

what causes the fluid to change from red to brown so fast is because when you change out the fluid you don't get all 100% out, which will cause it to change so fast.
Also when you changed it out the first time was the fluid very dark and smell like it wsa burnt? If so then when you put the new fluid in it will mix with the fluid in the torque converter as well as the exess fluid that is still on the gears and around the outside casing of the transmission. in case you didn't know trans fluid has cleaning detergents in it which help to keep the gears clean. so when the  new fluid mixes with the old it will change color. The only way to get all of the fluid out is do a complete trans fluid flush  which is availible at all transmission shops and most quick lube centers.

if you add an additional trans. fluid cooler your trans. will run cooler and have a longer life and the fuid wont turn brown. the brown fluid is burned because the CD4E trans. runs very hot, and the two top reasons for any atx to go bad is heat and too much hp. we all know that the Probe doesn't have a lot of power (unless forced induction or nos is used) so heat is most likely the cause.
