I'm hoping some one can help me.
I have a '86 T-bird, I had the carb rebuilt last year and everything was going ok until this last December when my car started sputering after being on the freeway for about 20 miles, (about 14 KM.) after that it looses power and it starts sputering. I've chequed the whole carburator and hoses and links to meke sure all is well, but have not been able to find what is happening. Could you please give an insite? All help is welcomed.
Thank you in advance,

Jaime,

Sounds like your carb is icing up after hi speed run.Check your carb base for temperature. Is there any frost on it?

If I understand what your saying, your car runs fine when you first start it up. Once you have been one the road for a short distance you loose power and the car will not idle. I beleive you have a Catalytic Converter that is starting to plug. A way to check that is to put a Vacuum gauge on the car and run the engine at 2500 RPM for 2 minutes. If the converter is plugged or restricked you will read pressure on the vacuum gauge.

I don't think that its your cat. If it was starting to get plugged the problem would probably be consistent, not after the car has been running for a bit. It is possible that it is starting to break up inside the converter, causing restriction, but if this were true, the problem is usually inconsistent. Only happens when the broken parts sit a certain way in the converter.

Your conclusion is totally untrue. 10 Years of experience has shown me that this can happen. That is why I gave the test procedure. They don't always fail the same way!
