I'm about to pay off my car finally, and there are several things I have to do to get this thing fixed up, which I should be able to afford when the car is paid off, plus I turn 21 in a few days and since insurance is paid 2 months in advance, my insurance has already dropped down to 150/mo.  :)  So now I've got some stuff to do to my car, and questions about them all.  :)   First I've got a 700 watt sound system in my car, and it will probably get even more powerful.  The car vibrates badly, I've determined most of the noise comes from the plastic covers over the taillights (those things that you have to slide off to replace a light), and from the 3rd brake light...as well as the trim on the hatch top.  Any tips on deadening these areas?  The local stereo shop suggested putting some pieces of rubber under the taillight, any idea what kind works good?   Also, many of you have probably noticed if you close a door when the window is down it makes the most terrible noise.  I've read reviews of the probe from various car magazines and they pointed out that the probe does this, so I guess this is normal.  But it is still so damn annoying!  Has anyone figured out a way to stop it?   Next...I've got the Base 2.0, it has two disc brakes and two drums.  Is there a way to replace the drums and have all four wheels with discs?   And, I want to upgrade my exhaust/intake systems...Is this something easy to do that I can do in my driveway with standard tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers?   And Torrientia, a question specifically for you.  Your dual exhaust is awesome.  :)  You said you went to Midas and paid them like $300 to do it...  It looks very cool, but have you noticed that it actually helps anything?  I've seen some very neat exhaust stuff on other cars, like the old classic mustangs and vettes where they had big chrome exhausts running under the doors...  I saw some Honda (I think) with dual exhaust, and the tips exited to the sides right behind the FRONT tires.  It looks very cool and probably gives GREAT performance, but judging on the placement I imagine they had to ditch the catalytic converter, there goes street legal.  And that ground effects kit for the probe where the exhaust comes out of the side skirts looks pretty cool too.   Well, I'll probably think of more questions later, this'll do for now.  :)  Thanks guys. eGroup home: http://www.eGroups.com/group/2literprobes

As far as deadening the vibration... Dynamat works wonders. Works better than any rubber you'll ever buy for vibration dampening. As far as the brake question goes, well, I just talked with Joe at SP Motorsports and he told me the conversion to disc rear brakes is entirely possible. What you need to do is go to the dealer ship and get parts lists for both braking systems and compare them. Replace any parts with different part numbers, and you've got it. One word of advice tho... Check on the master cylinder. I'm almost positive it's different for the disc's than for the drums. As discs are far more effieient, if you use the original master cylinder with them you'll be locking up your rear end at every red light and stop sign in town. Not only is that dangerous, but tire wear is TREMENDOUS!!! That's all I know about that, Jim Golden

Intake and Exhaust: For the 2.0L, there are some intake and exhaust options, just not as many as the 2.5L, but they are good. The Bosal Headers and Exhaust is very good. Bryan Pendleton has some info on hp and torque on his page. If you want to buy one, contact Eddie Wu at CBPerformance. He is a friend of the probe community, has good prices, and the best customer service ive ever seen. I trust him with my money, and everyone on the list thats dealt with him would agree. Knight Engineering is *supposed* to be developing an intake for our car, but I dont know what they are doing now... Weapon R also has an intake, but its short and will pull in hot underhood air, but there are probably a couple of things you could do to get cool air to it, but for the $140 or so youll pay for it, you shouldnt have to, IMHO. I could see the headers for the PSE being totally doable in your own driveway or garage. The exhaust could be as well. Vibrations: The lights can pose a problem with vibrations, the rear bumper cover can as well. There are screws in the rear wheel well on the bumper cover that you can use to tighten it. Just loosen the screws, play a song that causes the vibration, then have someone hold the cover in different places until it stops, then tighten. You can do the same thing for the lights as well. Press on the lights in different places until it stops, then tighten those screws. You can also use some type of double sided tape (or anything that stops the contact) to place on any area that the plastic of the lights touch. Check out you rear tag as well, just to make sure no vibration is coming from that as well.
