I have a 92 Explorer XLT that has been shooting vacuum hoses off the intake manifold everyonce in a while when I start the engine. Does anyone have an idea why? Also, When I reattached the vacuum hoses up I'm not sure if they are in the correct spot or if the hoses should be attached or just caps. When I look at the Haynes repair manual it shows only caps on all but one. If someone has a diagram or a picture of what is connected where I would greatly like to see it. Thanks!

I had this problem, as well as sometimes on shut down the engine would race when put in park and I'd have to be quick with the key. On start up if I didn't get a good start it would pop through the intake blowing off the vacuum lines. Replacing the throttle position sensor fixed the problems. They are inexpensive $20-$30 from Autozone, and took like one minute to replace as it's just two screws and a wire connector. M.

How many miles do you have on this? At around 80k many of the rubber hoses become very soft from heat. There are two in particular. One on the driver's side of the intake, towards the firewall and one that lays on the intake manifold on the passenger side. These are just simple rubber hoses and they put them in the hottest places. Go figure. What is popping off probably is a cap. Get new ones at the zone, but as far as TPS and some other electronics, I have learned to get them from either Napa or the dealer. I have run across many bad electronic parts from the zone.   CR
