It's been prety hot in Colorado the last two weeks. Temperatures in the 90-100's and my '69, 302 has been suffering from vapor lock.

I've bypassed the mechanical fuel pump and installed an electric one. That's improved it quite a bit, but I still have a minor problem with warm starts.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I've heard about thermally shield for the carburetor, but I haven't been able to find a source for the part.

Same problem here i think th carb is getting hot while its been sitting and the gas is actully boiling into the manifold. it will start but with a cloud of black smoke. i had a heat insulated gasket with my edelbrock which did a pretty good job of keeping the carb cool. so if you have an edelbrock i know you can get that at www.summitracing.com thats where i got mine. i switched back to the stock 2bbl and havent seen one for that size "if anyone knows about one for a 2bbl please let me know" also make sure your elec fuel pump is mounted low like on the frame. also try to route your gas lines as far as you can from the block. I just picked up a used scooped hood i am hoping this will aid in cooling. hotdog let me know if you find an answer because i am a looking for one too. "jenny creek, a couple of weeks ago? you dont happen to have a white bronco?

No, cjpischel, my Bronco is metallic blue with with white trim.

Yes, the fuel pump is low on the frame and the gas lines have been rerouted away from the block. It runs fine, but starts hard when hot.

I have a stock 2bbl too. I'll keep looking for a heat insulated gasket and let you know if I find one.

The hood scoop sounds like a good idea.

I helped my vapor lock by using a Moroso "cool can" and some fuel line insulator available from Summit. I run an electric fuel pump and an Edelbrock 4 barrel.

Yes, here's how it works.... installation is easy, if you have room under the hood. 2 bolts, and the fuel line gets cut for the inlet and outlet. You must fill the "can" with ice (inconvenient if daily driver) the fuel then passes through the aluminum finned core and becomes very cool, allowing for a dense mix at the carb.
