I'm removing my door panels to fix the locking mechanism on my 87' Crown Vic. The vent window crank needs to be removed, but I don't see a clip or anything. How do I get it off?

Hi! I had an 83 crown Vic years ago and had to remove my door panels to fix the power windows. I removed the vent window crank by first removing/ (carefully prying off) the round chrome face plate/cover/cap whatever ford calls it that is glued in place, it covers the single Phillips head screw which is located directly under the cap and dead center of the round crank, take the Phillips out and thats it, you can just glue the cap back on when your done with the adhesive of your choice, hope this helps and ttyl, MJM z_twenty8

If you're talking about the handle to move the window up and down, you see the little plate on the center (mine looked like spun aluminum and one had a wood color on the center), take a thin screw driver, also a heat gun (I found a blow dryer for a few seconds worked), heat it up and remove gently, there will be a Philip screw right under it. Its a very thin plate and will bend like paper, but if you remove it with little force you can put it back on with automotive glue found at a store hardware. Also I don't know what type of options you're's had but I also found unscrewing the top of the locking rod (that little chrome piece), it help allot taking the inner door panel off. Also you have 2 big bolts and about 4 or 5 tiny screws on the arm rest, and about 8 -12 little plastic pins that hold the outer of it on. The only real pain you'll have is the top rubber part of the door panel that touches the window, I found having that the window down helps allot. Now, when you get the inner door panel off is where the real fun starts. You'll find the thin paper between the panel and door, keep that, its important some how. Have you're window up. You know that little rivet in the lower part of the door right in the jam? Thats you're electric lock rivet, make sure not to spin that, if its loose the lock will not work, it spins. The lock is in the far back lower corner and has 2 rubber grommets that hook right up into a clip the looks like 2 Cs pointing down, it just pops out. Before popping it out remove the hook from the mechanism on the middle far back inside the door, its a plastic cover that pops off and then a small plastic cap is one the shaft coming off the lock, twist the bottom of the plastic part till is comes off then slide the shaft out. Then pop is out of the clip in the lower back that holds the lock. Unclip the wires from the bottom and its out, don't spin the shaft on the lock, you need to be close to that length so it works right. Now I suggest wearing a long sleeve shirt or sweat shirt would be better, the edges on that metal will cut you deep, I got gashes from it. Gloves would help but its better to feel around to get an idea of what you're doing. I'm sending picture of what you're door will look like. I hope this helped a little.
