I bought a 68 Bronco a few months back with sport badges and a very messed up 289. How do I decode the v.i.n. to determine what top and other items came with the vehicle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your first 3 letters / numbers tell body style :
U13 = roadster U14 = 1/2 cab U15 = full top .
The rest you can find in a Chiltons or do a web search , can't remember the site that lists VIN decoding . By the way , the Sport / Ranger packages are not part of the VIN .
