My recently acquired 2001 Windstar has water drops inside one head light. The other headlight does not. Is there someplace in the lamp housing where water can get in like maybe a bad gasketed joint or should I be looking for a crack or hole in the housing? Has anyone else had water inside a headlight? How did you fix the problem?

Can't speak specifically to the Windstar, but I have a Toyota that would occasionly get moisture inside the headlight. I removed the entire housing, took out the bulbs and used a hair dryer to completely dry the inside. After inspecting it carefully for cracks and finding none, I ran a bead of clear RTV around the housing where the plastic back joins the lens. It has stayed dry for over a year.   Also, some of the housings (again not sure about the Windstar) look like they could be taken apart, but that's usually not a good idea, as it is very hard to get it resealed.   Bob

I had the drivers side headlamp assembly replaced under warranty on my '01 a few years ago because it was getting moisture in it. If your fix doesn't work I would look for a replacement because I think it's a safety issue.

Has anyone else had water inside a > headlight? How did you fix the problem? have a subaru legacy with this problem. What i'm planning to do is remove the lens housings and spritz with windex. Then flush with water, then use a hair dryer. if there are rock chip holes, or cracks, you can use RTV silicone to seal.

The non-sealed beam lamp housings have a vent on back that looks like a place to hook a vaccum hose that lets dry air into the housing and moisture out...getting wet most likely means a weak place in the adhesive where the clear front and white back meet.
