Lately, especially when its cold, I have noticed a weird sound when I turn the wheels (right or left, it dosn't matter). I thought maybe I needed to change my power steering fluid. Has anyone had this problem. Oh by the way I own a '99 Ford Windstar with about 38,000 miles. Can someone please tell me how to make this noise stop. One thing. When the car is moving, over 10mph and turning, the sound is not there. Only when sitting still and turning the wheel, or going very slow (like in a parking lot). Thanks in advance!

Hi I have the same problem with my 96. I was told that ford has a loud power steering pump. Another thing I found out is that the outer tie rods on these need frequent replacing, I have been told that the noise may come from worn outer tie rods. I may be replacing these very soon and I will have to make a post to let you all know if this took care of the noise. Mike

check the fluid? maybee change it altho' 38000 miles seems low for that- allow the car to move even slowly while turning the wheel

I would try changing the fluid first. Had a similar problem on my Toyota after installing larger tires. Went away after changing the power steering fluid. Bob Garrett
