Gary, Yes, I have a red light as well (1997 GT). It does have something to do with the alarm system. I originally thought that it was a factory installed device, but now I am beginning to wonder. I have had problems with the alarm going off without provocation, ever since I installed a FIPK. I finally got tired of the alarm klaxon and ran an on/off bypass switch under the hood. The alarm still activates, but you won't hear it anymore (as Blake often sez' - he he). Anyhoo, I'd also like to know if this is or isn't a factory alarm. Whatever mine is, it also powers all lights on the car when the alarm is activated. The remote I have appears to be Ford stock but I am not sure.... The flashing light also coincides with what appears to the standby alarm mode and the activated alram mode. Any way around it - all of the alarm equipment looks stock but then again.... Chris >

Wow something I actually know. if it is funtioning it is the theft deterent systeme for the car but if it's not then it is the uninstalled systeme that I know they started manufacturing in the 93-97 gt's and because they have the same build as our type of cars they have the same components but because they sold for more they actually installed the wiring harness for the light it was a dealer option to sell the cars with a stock security systeme which most of them didn't as you can tell all the newer ford's have this modification my Dad has the more expensive model of 97 f150 which is the same as the cheaper model but it has the same modifications but just not the wiring harnesses ? like oh say "the theft deterent systeme" (little blinking red light)hahaha later Blake if you need more pointless facts about ford cars just let me know hehehe >

Blake, Thanks for the history lesson. Again, I am not sure if the entire system is factory or not. The klaxon (horn) for the alram system is mounted (as you are looking at the master cylinder) just to the lower left of the cylinder. The remote also opens the door locks and has a panic alarm. Do you have any idea why the alarm might activate by itself? It never did this before I installed the FIPK. I've backtracked all of the pertinent wiring harnesses that required movement during the FIPK installation and everything looks like it should. I have noticed that this problem does not ocurr unless I am within approximately twenty feet of the GT. Might this suggesta remote control malfunction? I have spoken to the techs at both Ford and Circuit City and neither, to no great surprise, have a clue as to what the problem might be. Thanks again, Chris > >

no no no there wouldn't be an alarm because the car is missing the harness to activate it and in the first place it's not an alarm it's a theft deterent systeme which means it's really only a blinking red light in some models later Blake >

From your history teacher lesson 101 hehehe you've got me on that but in thought the ford factory systems were a peice of junk in the first place they were constructed out of the weakest possible material the chip probably isn't even silicon coated this malfunction would be due to moisture gathering on the inside of the remote or the radio receiver itself or again just poor quality like ford does like to put in there vehicles the systeme lasts and stands wear and tear for about 1 year and then it's kaput I wouldn't recomend trying to remove the systeme though not that anyone would even try unless you were upgrading the ford manufacturers did have one ingenious idea though if the system is tampered with the autamtic fuel cut is activated and as soon as you step foot on the brakes the whole car goes down the toilet and there is about 500 $ worth of work involved to get her back on the road and immediatly when you bring it into the shop the police are called unless you bring proof of ownership hehehe. any way I've rambled on about lots and lots of usless info later Blake >

Greetings all! It was inspection time this weekend and I was told I would need new tires and new struts in the near future. Anyone know what the best parts would be for a 1997 Probe GT? Anyone have personal preferences on parts that they would recommend? Also, they felt that the cv joibnt boot would soon need replaced. Does anyone know if this was a recalled part by Ford? I think they were on other Ford vehicles at some point in the past. Thanks again, Chris At 03:51 AM 10/5/02 +0000,

Hey whats up, chris I would recomend getting the monroe shocks and theirsecond to the top of the line because the top of the line seems to have a lot of deffects in it I know because I sell the parts to the dealers I run a parts store in MN and the shops always want the monroe and in my probes I only put those in there so that would be the best for some after market shocks they help out the handling a little bit and for the back get some heavier duty ones because the probes rear shocks always seem to go out faster than the front ones. If you need parts for it just let me know I can get them for a nice price if your within 2000 miles. I can get you a quote for them if you want. later Blake >

Blake, Thanks for the information. Would those be the Sensitrack shocks? I asked the mechanic and he said they were ok but performance shocks would be better - and yes, the rear ones are starting to seep due to the vehicle "sitting" so much. Also, do you have any ideas about performance tires, wires, plugs and associated equipment? He stated it needed a tune up. I kind of laughed inside my head as I thought if I tuned it up any more I'd likely end up chasing the shuttle.... I live in Pennsylvania - east of Pittsburgh. Thanks again, Chris >

No Monroe has quite a few different models of shocks the sensitrack is just one of them just to let you know monroe makes the best performance shock for your money you can go for the for expensive shock and you wont be able to feel the difference between the two I forget the exact name of the shock but I do know that it is a really good shock don't go with the sensitrack they are the low midgrade shock for the common daily driver who doesn't care. And the tires I would go with some stock ones if you have the stock wheels on there the firehawks are really good and stand up to winter wear quite well try to get the mid walled tires they perform better in the snow since you live in PA you'll need them I know I did here in MN but PA isn't to far for me to ship if you want the shocks at 1/2 price thats about the cost of the things but with shipping it'll be more like 3/4 the price if your interested just let me know. I'll find out the name of the shocks today with the exact price. I'll e-mail that tonight. later Blake >

Blake, I'd like to go with strictly street performance tires. The GT doesn't move in snow nor rain if I can help the latter. I'll consider you offer on the parts and get back to you. Thanks again, Chris > >
