I own a 1986 Ford Thunderbird Turbo, but I haven't got to drive it yet because I am replacing some of the parts. So I was wondering when does the Turbo kick in when you are driving. I would also like to know anything else that is useful with this car, such as how high can the RPM's go before I have to switch gears.

as far as i know turbo kicks in at highway speeds such as passing another car etc. and it makes your machine more efficient, superchargers generally kick in right at the beginning to give you some extra boost. i could be mistaken though i'm no expert. as far as the rpm's i have a motorcycle and i had the same question when i bought it because i had never driven stick but in general all i do is listen to the engine and you will be able to tell when its asking for a gear change you will hear the engine revving and it will take a lil bit to get used to but then it becomes second nature. hope this helps.

i got a 1988 turbo. the turbo doesnt kick in at a determined point or when you hit a certian RPM. it goes pretty much by how you punch the gas. if you do it lightly the trubo wont do anything, but if you gun it the turbos gonna kick in hard. About the gears, you can change at anytime after about 2500, but dont ride under 2000, thats bad for it.
