> Why No Rubber Flap In Wheel Well?

This is in regards to my new 2008 Ford Ranger I just purchased. There is an opening between the wheel well and the engine compartment on both sides of the vehicle. On the passenger side, there is a rubber flap attached to the sheet metal that covers the opening; but on the driver’s side, there is no flap, thus allowing dirt and debris to enter the engine compartment. I thought it might have been omitted during assembly because there are holes in the sheet metal for this purpose, but the dealer told me there is no part shown in their manuals. Over time this could cause mechanical problems with the steering mechanism and other engine components. Why is there not a rubber flap?
