I know that there aren't many messages being left here anymore, but can anybody help me? My beautiful midnight blue '87 EGT just left me by the side of the road for the first time. While entering an onramp for the Spaulding Turnpike in New Hampshire, the battery light came on on the dash and a stream of thick white smoke began pouring out of the right rear of car. The car lost most power and smoke began coming in the center dash vents. I pulled over in a hotel parking lot with smoke billowing out from the hood to discover that most of my engine wiring was on fire! Needless to say, it wouldn't restart. Anyway, now I need an entirely new wiring harness! Do I need one from a GT or can I take one from any Escort? Any takers on this one? Thanks, Dana DeVries Portsmouth, NH

Gotta come from a fisrt generation GT. one the same year would eliminate any possible differences they made between years. good luck finding one. i was lucky enough to get one out of a u-pull-it just yard when I did the converstion on my LX to a GT. I had to hack the heck out of the car i was taking it out of to get it out in an hour. (It was raining and I didn't wamt to be out there any longer) If you know what you are doing, you can probably do it yourself. It WILL be a pain in the a** though. I won't lie to you. Try callin Sam at 1800-827-3673 ext. 108. He usually hooks me up with good prices on aftermarket oem stuff and might be able to get you a brand new wire harness for a good price. This will eliminate the possibility of getting a already defective wire harness from a wrecking yard. Brian

hi, i am an owner of a 89 Escort GT, i had a similar problem with mine, and what u need to do is take the harness from An Excort that has the same engine as u do, also u need to look under the hood to see where it happen, and insulate the wires with ceremic tape. Hope this Helps -Xris Childers- >
