The Democracy Defense Project: A Forum on the State of Democracy in Michigan

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation is excited to partner with The Democracy Defense Project to invite you to a bipartisan forum focused on the state of democracy in Michigan on June 26, 2025.

This event will include a presentation of newly commissioned polling from Richard Czuba and the Glengariff Group, exploring how Michigan voters view the state of democracy, trust in elections, and the role of voters in shaping public policy. Following the poll presentation, attendees will hear from the Democracy Defense Project Board members, who will discuss the implications of the data and offer strategies to strengthen public confidence in democratic systems.

The panel will include:

  • Gov. John Engler – Former Governor of Michigan

  • Gov. James Blanchard – Former Governor of Michigan and U.S. Ambassador to Canada

  • Rep. Mike Bishop – Former U.S. Congressman and Michigan Senate Majority Leader

  • Lt. Gov. John Cherry Jr. – Former Michigan Lieutenant Governor
