Greg Ford
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Greg Ford is a graduate of Forest Hills Central High School and a lifelong resident of the Grand Rapids area. He earned his bachelor’s and doctorate degrees from Ferris State University College of Optometry. Dr. Ford joined his father’s optometry practice in 1990 and was managing partner until 2022. During that time, the practice grew from a two-doctor, 2 staff practice in 900 square feet to a five-doctor, 22 staff office in 9000 sq ft. Dr. Ford continues to see patients on a part-time basis and truly enjoys clinical practice. In addition, Dr. Ford is the local medical director and administrator for a group of 51 private practice optometry offices in central and western Michigan.
Dr. Ford was honored as the Michigan Young Optometrist of the Year in 1995, and Optometrist of the Year in 2014 for his contributions to Optometry and the optometric community. He served on the Michigan Optometric Association Board of Directors for 10 years and as President in 2013. He is currently active on the legislative committee of the MOA and is the current chair of the Select Workgroup on Contemporary Optometry. His passion is private practice optometry, and he enjoys mentoring young optometrists.
As the youngest nephew of President Gerald R. Ford, Dr. Ford actively participates in events and meetings of the Gerald R. Ford Foundation. He is often asked to speak and relay stories of his times with President and Mrs. Ford, including visits to the White House. He is currently a cabinet member for the Ford50 campaign, raising funds to expand and sustain the foundation’s educational programs.
Dr. Ford is active in his church and enjoys hiking the National Parks (with his super awesome wife), golf, and hockey. He and his wife Carla continue to live in the Grand Rapids area and have 3 grown children and two grandchildren (who are also pretty awesome).
